Haruhi Fujioka is a lower-middle class first year student at the rich and fancy Ouran High School Academy. She got in thanks to good grades and a large scholarship to pursue her dreams and see where they'll lead. On her first day at school, while searching for a quiet place to study, she happened across the Ouran High School Host Club. While trying to escape them, she accidentally knocked over a ¥8,000,000 vase. Mistaking her for a guy, the Host Club recruited her as an errand dog to pay back her debt. Somehow she ended up making such an impression to them and wound up as a full-fledged host. Despite their shock to find that she was actually a girl, they made the deal that if she could get one thousand designations, they would call off her debt.
Haruhi is a calm, empathetic individual, with a slight prejudice towards rich people, though she always judges a person by their character, not social class. She doesn't mind that the girls the Host club entertains thinks she's a guy and kind of enjoys the casual chit-chat. She has a natural charm that has earned her a secure spot with the guys in the Host Club. She's not afraid to speak her mind, though she sometimes makes callous statements on accident when she does. She's very perceptive and intelligent, but doesn't seem to think she's all that interesting of a person.
Haruhi is pretty casual and calm about most things. She doesn't have any tight conceptions on gender roles and just kind of shrugs off her job as an enjoyable past time. Her father works at a nightclub to earn what little money they have, and so she helps out as much around the house as she can while pursuing her schooling.
